The course provides an overview of key concepts in managing Apple devices, with a focus on MDM, DEP, and VPP. Apple Device Management Course Outline
The Getting Started with Device Management course includes Apple MDM training, as well as DEP, VPP, developer tools, and security practices.
MDM: The MDM overview introduces key concepts and technologies in managing macOS and iOS devices. These include Configuration Profiles, Apple Configurator 2, device supervision, Apple’s Push Notification Service (APNs), imaging/”the end of imaging”/Apple T2 chip, Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager, MDM vendors.
DEP and VPP (Automated Enrolment and Managed Distribution): What it is, how to buy apps in volume for centralised deployment, how both programs complement MDM, key fundamentals and concepts of app deployment, and info on infrastructure perspective including setup.
Developer: Intro to bash scripting, why script? Discovering the correct tools for the job, using the CLI (with tips and tricks), using online repositories, versioning and version control/tracking (Github etc).
Security: Overview of Apple device security concepts, APFS, SIP, FileVault, Secure Boot, Sandboxing, Code-signing, Keychains (local and iCloud), User-Approved MDM (UAMDM) and how it impacts deployment, macOS Kernel Extensions (KEXTS), PPPC (Privacy, Preferences Policy Control), macOS Gatekeeper, firmware passwords and the new Apple T2 chip, Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) settings, Unix permissions and how we use the CLI (Command Line Interface), and using Start-up modifiers to manage and administer macOS computers.
